Last Will of Elizabeth Billing

On this twenty sixth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty one.  Before one Cyrille Renauld, Notary, residing in Loretteville, undersigned personally appeared  Mrs. Elizabeth Billing, wife of John Leady residing at St. Gabriel de Valcartier, farmer, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested us the said notary and witnesses to write down and receive in one form and have her last will and testament which she has declared in a manner and form following that is to say –

Firstly:  I most willingly resign my soul unto the heralds (?) of Almighty God my Creator in the humble hope that he will receive it through his favor by the sole merits and intercession of Jesus Christ my saviour.

Secondly:  I desire that any just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by any executor hereinafter named as soon as possible after my death.

Thirdly:  I give and bequeath to my beloved husband all my moveable and immoveable properties wherever the same shall be found and to whatever the same shall amount hereby constituting my said husband my universal legatee.

Fourthly:  I nominate, constitute and appoint my said husband my testamentary executor and I revoke all will and testamentary I may have heretofore made and declare the present to be my only true last will and testament.

Done and passed at Loretteville under Notorial number eight thousand five hundred and fifty seven.  After the reading of the present will to the testator by the notary in presence of Jules Falardeau, merchant and Joseph Bureau accountant both residents of Loretteville the testator the notary and witnesses have signed in the presence of each others.

Note by Patricia Balkcom:  Elizabeth’s gravestone in St. Andrew Presbyterian Cemetery in Valcartier states she died in 1948.  She would have been about 86 years old..
