18th May 1921 Last Will of Lawrence Corrigan Husband of Mary Ann Griffin

On this eighteenth day of May, one thousand, nine hundred, and twenty-one, before Cyrille Renaud, Notary, residing at Loretteville, personally appeared:  Lawrence Corrigan, farmer, residing at St. Gabriel du Valcartier, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, hath requested me the said Notary, to write down and received in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following.

1. I desire that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid my executor hereinafter named as soon as possible after my death.
2. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jane Corrigan the sum of one thousand dollars which said sum will be payable on the immoveable properties of my succession.
3. I give and bequeath to my son Michael Hubert William Corrigan, all the stock, farm implements, house furniture and immoveable properties.
4. The money deposited at the moment of my death will be divided by equal share between my two children Mary Jane and M.H.W. Corrigan by my executor hereafter named.
5. These sums of money to my daughter will be for all her rights in my succession and in the succession of her mother Mary Ann Griffin. 
6. I nominate and appoint my two brothers Patrick Thomas Corrigan and Jeremiah James Corrigan as my executors and intend that the charge will continue until the full age of majority of my son and my said daughter will have the rights to claim her money for her support only at the full age of majority of my said son.  I revoke all will and testaments I may have heretofore made and I declare the present to be my only will and testament. 

Done and passed at Valcartier under notarial number eight thousand six hundred and six.  After the reading of the present will to the testator by the notary in presence of John Hicks and John Kack, both farmers of Valcartier, the testator, the notary and the witnesses have signed in the presence of each others.

            On this eighteenth day of May one thousand nine hundred and twenty one, before me Cyrille Renaud, Notary, residing at Loretteville, undersigned personally appeared:  Lawrence Corrigan, farmer residing at St. Gabriel du Valcartier, who acknowledged and confessed to have had and received before the executors of these present from Patrick Thomas Corrigan of Valcartier, farmer, the sum of two hundred dollars and interest due by and in virtue of a deed of sale from Lawrence Corrigan  to Pat Thos. Corrigan, by deed of sale before the undersigned Phillippe Huot, notary at Quebec this seven November 1902 and registered at Quebec under No. 9943and affecting the lots 862, 864, and 863 eight hundred sixty two, eight hundred sixty four, and eight hundred sixty three of the <illegible> of Valcartier in consequence discharge.  Done and passed at Valcartier under notarial number eight thousand six hundred and five.  After the reading, the appearer has signed with said notary.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom:   Lawerence died in January 1923, at the age of 49.  His wife, Mary Ann Griffin, had died 6 months before he wrote this will – she was only 45.
