Last Will of William Guilfoyle

On this day, the seventeenth of October one thousand eight hundred and seventy two, before the undersigned Notaries Public for the Province of Quebec in the Dominion of Canada residing in the City of Quebec, personally came and appeared William Guilfoyle of the parish of St. Catherine of Fossambault, Farmer, who being of sound and disposing mind has made as follows his last will and testament:

I give, devise and bequeath to Margaret Griffin, my wife, all the property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable which I may die possessed of, instituting her my universal legatee at the charge of paying to James Guilfoyle, my son, a sum of two hundred dollars and to Ellen Guilfoyle, my daughter, a sum of eighty dollars.

This last will and testament received by Cy. Tessier the undersigned Notary in the presence of J.B. Delage, his colleague, having been read to the said Testator by the said Cy. Tessier Notary in the presence of his said colleague, he declared well to understand the same and has persisted in the same as containing his last will and intentions.

At Quebec, office of the said Cy. Tessier on the day & year above written under the number four thousand and sixty four.

In testimony whereof the Testator hath signed with and in the presence of the said Notaries who have also signed in the presence of the Testator and of one another, after the reading done according to law.

Note by Patricia Balkcom:  William died seven years later (30 December 1879) at the reported age 0f 80 years.  He and Margaret had 10 known children, 3 of them died before this will was written (William, Catherine, and Margaret).  Five children are not mentioned in the will – Mary, Thomas, Michael, Catherine and Judith.
