On this day the twenty fifth of September one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, before the undersigned Notaries Public residing in the City of Quebec personally came and appeared Mary Kane of the Parish of Valcartier, widow of the late John Gough, in his lifetime of the same place, Farmer, who being of sound and disposing mind, has made as follows her last will and testament.
1º I give, devise and bequeath to my two daughters, Maria and Elizabeth, my bed and bedding.
2º I give, devise and bequeath to Timothy Gough, one of my sons, the residue of the property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable, which I may die possessed of, instituting him my universal and and residuary legatee, in full ownership.
This last will and testament received by Cy. Tessier, Notary, in the presence of J.B. Delage, his colleague, having been read to the Testatrix by the first named Notary in the presence of his said colleague, she declared well to understand the same and has persisted in the same as containing her last will and intentions.
Thus done and passed at Quebec, office of the said Cy. Tessier, on the day & year first above written under the number four thousand two hundred and ninety six.
In testimony whereof the said Notaries have signed in the presence of the Testatrix and of one another, the latter having declared not to know how to write or sign her name, after the reading done according to law.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: Mary did not die until 37 years later in 1911 (at the age of about 85 years). It is possible that there is a later will. Mary had 11 children, at least 5 of them predeceased her.
