On this day, the fourth of December one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, before the undersigned Notary Public for the Province of Quebec, residing in the City of Quebec, and William McBain, Esquire, Justice of the Peace, and Joseph Harriot, Farmer of the place called Valcartier, County of Quebec, witnesses to these presents, personally came and appeared Andrew Kerr, of the said place of Valcartier, Yeoman, heretofore of the Township of Warwick, County of Lambton, in the Province of Ontario, Farmer, who being of ill health but of sound and disposing mind, made as follows his last will & testament.
I give, devise and bequeath to Margaret Kerr, of said place of Valcartier, my daughter, wife of James McCartney, of the same place, Farmer, all the property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable that I may die possessed of instituting her the said Margaret Kerr, my universal legatee in full ownership at the charge only, if I have enough money on the day of my death, of putting a headstone in the grave yard of St. Andrew Church of Valcartier where I wish to be buried.
The present last will & testament received by Jean-Baptiste Delage, the undersigned Notary, having been read to the said Testator in the presence of the said witnesses, he declared well to understand the same and has persisted in the same as containing his last intentions.
Thus done and executed at Valcartier aforesaid, dwelling of the said Testator, on the day and year first above written, under the number two thousand six hundred and twenty eight of the records of the said Jean-Baptiste Delage.
In testimony whereof the said Testator has signed in the presence of the said Notary & witnesses who have also signed in the presence of the said testator and in the presence of one another after the reading done according to law.
One marginal note is good & eight words erased are null.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: Andrew died two weeks after writing this will. His daughter, Margaret, died five years later.
