On this day the fifth of March one thousand eight hundred and ninety, before the undersigned Public Notary for the Province of Quebec, Canada, residing in the City of Quebec, and Ambroise Derouin and Joseph Durand, of the Parish of St. Ambroise, County of Quebec, witnesses to these presents, personally came and appeared William McBain, Senior, Esquire, of the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, in the County of Quebec, Farmer, who has made his last will and testament as follows:
1st I give, devise and bequeath unto my son, Arthur McBain, all and every share I have in a certain lot of ground situate in the said Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, Seigniory of St. Gabriel, Third Concession of St. Gabriel East, which lot is now known and designated upon the Plan and Book of Reference thereto for the said Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier under number (126) one hundred and twenty-six, subject to the paying to his brother, John McBain, the sum of twenty five dollars when he becomes in possession of said lot of ground above mentioned.
2nd I give, devise and bequeath to my other son, Lewis David Dubord McBain, all and every share I have in other lots of ground situate in the said Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, said Seigniory, Fifth Concession, which lots being now known and designated upon the official Plan and Book of reference thereto for said Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, under the numbers (332 & 337) three hundred and thirty two and three hundred and thirty seven, with also my share in all moveable property, stock, farming utensils & implements I may on the day of my death, instituting him my universal legatee, subject however to the charge of paying my funeral expenses and the costs of a good grave stone, which he will be bound to be erected to my memory within six months after my death, and also subject to pay to his brothers, Thomas Scott McBain and Benjamin McBain, and to his sister, Mary Margaret McBain, twenty five dollars each; the first sum to be paid to Thomas Scott McBain twelve months after my death, second following year to his brother, Benjamin, and third year to his sister, Mary Margaret McBain.
3rd I revoke all other wills and testaments I may have made before this day.
This last will and testament received by Jean-Baptiste Delage, in the presence of said witnesses having been read to the said Testator by the said Notary in the presence of the said witnesses, he declared to well understand the same and has persisted in the same as containing his last intentions.
Thus done and executed at St. Ambroise under the number ten thousand one hundred and fifty two of the records of said Notary,
In witness whereof the said Testator has signed with and in the presence of the said Notary and witnesses, who have also signed with and in the presence of the said Testator and in the presence of one another after the reading done.
Two marginal notes good & twenty four words erased are null.

Note by Patricia Balkcom: William died 2 years later on the 22nd of July 1892 at the age of 81 years. His wife, Jannet Brown predeceased as did at least two of his twelve children.
