On this thirtieth first of July one thousand eight hundred and fourteen, before me Cyrille Renaud, Notary residing at Loretteville, undersigned, personally came and appeared Jane Neil, wife of John Rourke, Farmer, residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested me the said Notary and witnesses to write down and receive in due form of law her last will and testament which she has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

1º I most willingly resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God, my Creator, in the humble hope that he will receive it to his favor thorough the sole merits and intercession of Jesus Christ, my Saviour.

2º I give and bequeath to my two sons, James Henry Rourke and George Thomas Rourke all my properties, moveable and immoveable wherever the same may be found and to whatever the same shall amount hereby constituting my said two sons my universal legatees and the Executors of this my will and testament, and if one of my sons died before to be married and have children, the other son above mentioned shall be his heir.

Done and passed at Loretteville under Notarial Number six thousand two hundred and twenty

. And after the reading of said will to the said Testatrix in the presence of Samuel White and Jules Couture both of Loretteville, the last Accountant of the Bank, the Testatrix, the witnesses and Notary have signed in the presence of each other.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom:  Jane died on the 19th of February, 1923, nine years after writing this will.  She was 67 years old.  Although only her two sons are mentioned in the will, she also had several daughters.
