Death* | 10 January 1879 | Quebec City, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; On August 25, 1878 Michael Farrell shot and killed Francis Conway (his cousin) in the head, in front of witnesses, he was arrested and brought to trial. In October of 1878 he was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to death by the jury. This was the last public hanging in the Province of Quebec. This was not the first man that Michael Farrell killed, in 1861 he killed David Maher (his cousin) with an axe, the jury found him not guilty and reduced the charge to self-defense.1 Witness: Mary Landers |
