Obituary* | 21 March 2018 | Keene Sentinel Source Newspaper, Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, United States; "Yvonne M. Cassin, 103, of Keene, passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2018, at Cheshire Medical Center with family by her side. She was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Shirley, Mass., the oldest of 10, to Maxime and Mary (Hachey) Gallien. She grew up in Athol, Mass., where she attended area schools. On April 25, 1941, she married Francis Cassin. Shortly thereafter, the two settled in Keene, where they began their family. Yvonne was an extremely creative and kind-hearted woman. Giving back to her community was important to her and, through her baking talent, she was able to do so. Yvonne was self-employed as a cake decorator and was known as the “cake lady.” She had donated countless delectable desserts for charity, including fundraisers for the Keene Community Kitchen and Cedarcrest Center. Yvonne was not just known for her cakes, but also her elaborate gingerbread houses, pies and everything and anything else she could whip up in the kitchen. She had also spent time employed at Woolworth’s as a chocolate decorator. Yvonne was organized and always had her house decorated for the holidays or current season. She enjoyed time with family, especially playing croquette and organizing family barbecues that featured her famous burgers with peppers and onions. In addition to being a whiz in the kitchen, Yvonne was also very gifted when it came to sewing. There was nothing that she couldn’t do. She cherished being “Grannie” — not only to her grandchildren, but to their friends. In her younger years, her pastimes included dancing, roller-skating, ice-skating and skiing. Her greatest passion was curling up with a good book. Yvonne will be fondly remembered for her laughter and for the way her house always smelled of freshly baked cake. Yvonne will be dearly missed by her children, James Cassin and his wife, Barbara, of Manchester and Connie Robichaud and her husband, “Robie,” of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Michael Daniels of Keene, Lisa Alex and her husband, Don, of Keene, Stephen Cassin and his wife, Marguerite, of Manchester, Robert Cassin and his wife, Lisa, of Chesterfield, Charlean Allen of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Theresa Meier and her husband, Steve, of Springfield, Vt., Anne Davis and her husband, Phil, of Chesterfield, Robert Robichaud Jr. of Alstead and Christopher Robichaud and his wife, Lisa, of Langdon; great-grandchildren, Kurt Daniels, Kelly Bell, Emily Maggart, Hayden Maggart, Sarah Alex, Jason Alex, Samuel Cassin, Jacob Cassin, Stanley Watts, Derek Watts, Rachel Cote, Keanna Bingham, McKenna Bingham, Hailey Robichaud, Laci Robichaud, Elizabeth Robichaud, and David Robichaud; great-great-grandchildren, Logan Bell and Benjamin Robichaud; brothers, Emile Gallien of Arundel, Maine and Armand Gallien of Hemet, Calif.; son-in-law, Arthur Daniels and his wife, Ruth, of Port Orange, Fla.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 44 years, Francis Cassin; daughter, Janice Daniels; and siblings, Bertha Blazer, Ed Gallien, John Gallien, Francis Gallien, Ann Wilcox, Art Gallien and Wilfred Gallien; and dear friend Phyllis Robbins. Family and friends are invited to call at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro St., Keene on Saturday, March 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow immediately at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place in the spring at St. Joseph Cemetery in Keene. Because of Yvonne’s passion for helping those in her community, it is asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Yvonne M. Cassin’s name to a local charity or organization of one’s choice. Fletcher Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Keene is handling arrangements.
