Anecdote*Thomas Henry Minogue; This information was gathered from Patrick Monogue, grandson of Thomas Henry Monogue.

Thomas Henry was a conservative (in the political sense) ans was well-known by the people in government. Pat thinks that is how his father Thomas John got a job at the post office at the young age of 19. Thomas Henry was a tailor and he worked at a shop on James Street. Later, he owned a small tailor shop on Concession Street. This shop he later turned into "Tom Monogue's Ice Cream Parlour". Marlene Pryor has a picture of the sign for the shop. Although, Patrick does not remember his grandfather having an ice cream store, he does remember him bringing big tins of ice cream to the picnics they would have at Concession Park. Agnes, Thomas's daughter was also a seamstress but she worked for a big tailor outfit on King Street. When Thomas Henry got older he sold the shop and went to work for the Liquor Control Board store at Barton and Ottawa. His health deteriorated and he became confused probably from atherosclerosis and he came to live with Pat's family on Huron Street for a while because grandma couldn't take care of him by herself. He eventually went back to live with grandma and his daughters on Kensington Street. He stayed in the upstairs bedroom and he used to say he heard a baby crying (which would have been Marlene, Dorothy's daughter) but they just told him he was imagining things because they didn't want to explain that Dorothy had a baby. He died in the upstairs bedroom and on the same day "Aunt Lizzie" (Gibbons Armstrong) also died. So Grandma lost both her husband and sister on the same day.

Note: It appears that Mary Gibbons did not ever move into the house at 213, as city directories indicate the house was first occupied by a John Hooper and later by a Arthur Arnold. It appears that the house was being rented out; further research is needed in deed records to ascertain the ownership.21
Anecdote*circa 1934Patrick Thomas Monogue; Kensington Street, Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada; Pat used to go to his Grandma Monogue's house every Wednesday after school because she would bake bread and fry doughnuts on that day. They were living on Kensington Street and Pat's family lived on Grovesnor and he went to St. John's Elementary School at that time. Grandma also used to give him a card with $5 in it every St. Patrick's Day.
When Grandma's house on Gage Ave. was sold, Jimmy Young called Pat and said that when they cleaned out the attic many of the gifts she had received over the years were still there in their boxes unused (boxes of handkerchiefs, stockings, etc.) and all the cards still had the money in them that people had given her.

Research Note*Is this the son of Thomas Gough and Alice Mooney? The birthdate is close and place of birth is correct. If it is, then he probably returned to Ireland from Canada as a young man to serve in the army.
Birth*circa 1816Dundalk Civil Parish, County Louth, Leinster Province, Ireland1
Military*11 December 1838This is the date of attestation into the 86th Regiment of the British Army that served in Canada and was made up of Irish soldiers that served in Canada and India. The record states that Edward Goff, Regimental Soldier #1488, joined at Guernsey and that he was born in Dundalk, County Louth, that he was 22 years old when he joined, was 5 feet, 8 and 3/4 inches tall, swarthy complexion, dark brown eyes and dark brown hair, and he died on the 19th October 1849. Note: The Ancestry source seems to indicate that it was the 17th Foot, 1st Battalion.2
