Burial*23 June 1866St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier Catholic Church, St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; Questions about where Marie was actually buried have arisen. One copy of St. Gabriel's Church record states that she was buried in the church itself, while another copy states she was buried in the cemetery. A plaque in the church states she was interred there on the 26th of June. This is the abstract from the one church record: "On the 23rd day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty six, we the undersigned priest have interred in the Catholic Church of this parish the body of Marie Ursule Hubert, of the parish of St. Foye near(?) Quebec, widow of the late Honourable John Neilson of Quebec. Deceased on the 20th instant, aged 84 years and 7 months. Present Messrs.(?) William Neilson, N. Neilson Ross, Joseph Gonzague Vincent who have signed with us.
P. Kelly, Pst." There is another signature believe it to say Hubert Neilson - has initials after the name (possibly M.D.)
On the plaque, Carouge is "Cape Rouge" which is about 9 miles north of Quebec City.
One researcher has stated that in 1911 when the church was rebuilt that the remains of Marie couldn't be found in the basement of the church - just a black cross hanging up there - so the question remains as to whether or not she was buried in the church or the cemetery.2,11
