James Landers Senior and James Landers Junior both of the parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, farmers, acting for themselves and in their own names and also for in the name and se portant forts of Thomas Landers and John Landers, residing within the State of Wisconsin, one of the United States of America; of Johanna Landers, of the Township of Tingwick, wife of James Chapman, farmer and of Mary Landers, a minor child issue of the marriage of the said James Landers Senior with the late Anastasia Walsh of the one part;

Which said parties of the first part did and do hereby sell with guarantee against all incumbrances and troubles....
A lot of land situate in the first concession of Valcartier, containing five arpents in front by twenty-four arpents in depth, bounded front by the Queen's Highway, in rear by John McLaughlin, on the northwest side by Michael Griffin and Edmund Conway and on the Southeast side by Francis Conway, this lot being number thirty-two on the cadastral plan and the book of reference thereto for the parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, in the County of Quebec, together with the buildings thereon erected.
As the whole is now and with which the said purchaser doth declare himself satisfied.
Said property belonging to the said vendors as follows: Three arpents in front on the North West side on said depth to the said James Landers Junior in virtue of donation in his favor by James Landers Senior before Cy. Tessier, Notary, on the ninth of August one thousand eight hundred and seventy two, registered at Quebec on the fifteenth of the same month under the number 42912 and the remaining two arpents of frontage on the same depth to all of them as follows: one undivided half, to the said James Landers Senior as commun en biens with the said late Anastasia Walsh and three undivided sixteenths to the same as assignee of Bridgite, Catherine, and Ann Landers his daughters by deed executed yesterday before the undersigned notary; the said Bridgite, Catherine and Ann Landers being legal heirs and representatives each for one eight of the said late Anastasia Walsh their mother who died ab intestate on or about the eighteenth of August eight hundred and seventy three; and one undivided sixteenth to each of the said Thomas, John, James, Johanna and Mary Landers also as heirs and representatives each for one eighth of the said late Anastasia Walsh, their mother.
And the said James Landers Senior had purchased the whole of the above property in two separate lots from Mrs. Widow John Neilson and others by deed executed before A.A. Parent, Notary on the twenty seventh of June, one thousand eight hundred and fifty one, registered at Quebec on the twenty sixth of July following under the number 12312.
To have and to hold the said property together with all the rights, privileges and appurtenances there unto belonging unto him the said Patrick Delany to his own proper use and benefit, henceforth, forever.
This sale is made subject, first to the payment of such rents and dues as may be payable for the property, above described to whom it may appertain, together with all arrears of the same which may be due; second, to the payment of the sum of Two Hundred and twenty eight dollars to the said widow John Neilson and others, being the balance due in virtue of the above dated deed of sale, together with the interest on the same which accrue from this day.
This sale is further made for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand and seventy two dollars which is and will be, by consent, divided between the vendors as follows: Five hundred and thirty six dollars to the said James Landers Junior, Four hundred and two Dollars, to the said James Landers Senior; and thirty three dollars and fifty cents to each of the above Thomas, John, Johanna and Mary Landers; on account and in part payment of which the said James Landers Senior and James Landers Junior acknowledge and confess to have received each a sum of two hundred dollars (in all four hundred dollars) whereof quit, leaving a balance of six hundred and seventy two dollars which the purchaser promises to pay to the vendors in proportion to their respective claims, as follows: One Hundred Dollars on the twentieth of March One Thousand and Seventy Six and a like sum of one hundred dollars on the twenty sixth of March of each of the following years without interest.

On this twenty fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred and eighty three, at the special insistence and request of Dame Johanna Landers, wife of Malachy Landrigan, Farmer, both residing in the Parish of Sainte Catherine, I, Édouard Antill Panet, the undersigned Notary Public, duly commissioned and sworn in and residing and practising in the Parish of Saint Raymond, in the County of Portneuf, and Province of Quebec, accompanied by John Woodlock and Thomas Hartery, both farmers residing in the Parish of Saint Gabriel of Valcartier, witnesses called and required by law for the purposes hereof, reported to the residence in the said Parish of Sainte Catherine of the said Malachy Landrigan, and there finding the said Dame Johanna Landers sick and ill in bed, but of sound and disposing mind, memory, judgment and understanding as it appears unto us Notary from her words and actions, yet knowing and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous of regulating her worldly affairs whilst yet he had the strength left so to do, hath, in the presence of the said witnesses named, dictated and nominated fait dicté et nommé unto the said Notary in the presence of said witnesses his last will and testament in the manner and form following:

1º I recommend my soul to Almighty God my Creator in the humble hope that he will receive the same to his favor through the merits and intercession of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

2º I will and order that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be first paid by my Executor hereinafter named.

3º I will and order that my body be committed to the grave to be interred in a manner suitable to my station in life and according to the rites and solemnities of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and faith of which I am a member, and that a funeral mass be sung over my remains the day of my funeral and another service a year from the date of my death.

4º I give, devise and bequeath to my well beloved husband Malachy Landrigan the whole of my property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable, ready money, actions, rights of actions, and other property, of whatever nature and kind the same may be, to whatever amount the same may come to, and wherever situate, without exception or reserve, which I may be possessed of at the time of my decease, to be by my said husband used, enjoyed and disposed of as he may see fit and proper, in full property and ownership from and after the moment of my decease hereby instituting him my residuary legatee and devisee in full property and Executor of this my present last will and testament, and hereby revoking all other and former wills and codicils by me heretofore made, wishing and desiring that the present alone be followed.

(Witness) Death10 January 1879Michael Farrell; Quebec City, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; On August 25, 1878 Michael Farrell shot and killed Francis Conway (his cousin) in the head, in front of witnesses, he was arrested and brought to trial. In October of 1878 he was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to death by the jury. This was the last public hanging in the Province of Quebec. This was not the first man that Michael Farrell killed, in 1861 he killed David Maher (his cousin) with an axe, the jury found him not guilty and reduced the charge to self-defense.4
