On the fifth day of June one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, before me Cyrille Renaud, Public Notary, residing at Loretteville, undersigned, personally appeared George Madden, Farmer, residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested me the said Notary and witnesses to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

1º I desire that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my Executor hereinafter named as soon as possible after my death.

2º I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Madden all my moveable and immoveable properties wherever the same shall [be found] and whatever the same shall amount hereby constituting my universal legatee to the charge by my said son to support my wife Mary Jane O'Reilly during the term of her natural life and I revoke all wills I may have heretofore made and I declare the present to be my only true last will and testament.

Done and passed at St. Ambroise under Notarial Number six thousand one hundred and eighty eight. And after the reading of the present will by the Notary to the Testator in presence of Napoleon Falardeau & Alphonse Alain both residing at St. Ambroise, the Testator having declared his inability to sign his name has made his mark in the presence of the Notary and witnesses and the Notary and witnesses have signed in the presence of the Testator and in the presence of each other.

Fourteen words scratched are void. Marginal note good.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: George Madden died on the 27 May 1941 at 80 years of age (St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier Church Register), so he may have had a later will.3

Death*27 May 1941Riviere-aux-Pins, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; "...husband of the late Mary Jane O'Reilly of Riviere aux Pins...at the age of eighty one years and seven months after having received the sacraments of the Church..."
Note: He was actually 80 years, and 7 months.5
