Will* | 8 March 1892 | 8th March 1892 Will of Thomas Madden Husband of Sarah O’Connor From the Notary Records of Cyrille Renaud Record #519 Transcribed from the Original Will at the Quebec Archives On the eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety two, before me Cyrille Renaud Public Notary residing in the parish of St. Ambroise of Jeune Lorette undersigned and Hugh McGratty, Priest, and Patrick Murphy, Farmer, both residing in the parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, witnesses for the present last will was present Thomas Madden residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, Farmer, who being of sound & disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested us, the said Notary and witnesses, to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say: Firstly and principally, I most willingly resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator in the humble hope that he will receive it to his favour through the sole merits and intercession of Jesus Christ my Saviour. Secondly, I desire that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my Executor hereinafter named as soon as possible after my death with one service the day of my funeral, and one service one year after my death, this second for the sum of eight dollars. Thirdly, I give and bequeath all my moveable and immoveable properties to my son George Madden residing with me at the charge to paid the sum of four hundred dollars to my girl Marguerite Madden by installments of fifty dollars each year without interest and which the first instalment will be made one year after my death. Fourthly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my said son George Madden as Executor of this my will. Fifthly, I revoke all wills and codicils I have made heretofore made and I declare the present to be my only true last will and testament. Done and passed at the residence of the said Testator in the parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier under the number five hundred and nineteen of the minutes of the said Notary and after the reading of the present testament to the said Testator in the presence of the witnesses by the said Notary the Testator, the witnesses, and the Notary have signed in presence of each other. He was likely in his early 70s. It seems unusual that his wife is not mentioned in this will as she lived until 1900. Together they had at least 16 children, only two are mentioned in this will.7 |
