On this day the nineteenth of the month of July one thousand nine hundred and seven, before the undersigned Notary Public for the Province of Quebec, Canada, residing and practising in the City of Quebec and before John Payne and James McKee, Farmers, of the Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham in the County of Quebec, witnesses to these presents, personally came and appeared Thomas Martin, Farmer, of said Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham, who has made as follows his last will and testament, i.e.:

Art. 1st. I desire and order that a service be sung on the day of my burial, another one year after and six low masses be said as soon as possible after my death for the repose of my soul.

Art. 2nd. I give, devise and bequeath unto my son, Frank Martin
(a) all my household furniture, agricultural implements, vehicles, cattle and all other moveable effects I may die possessed of;
(b) my share and all other rights of property I have in a lot of ground situate in said Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham, being formerly lot number eleven of the Second Range of the Township of Stoneham, containing nine acres in front, more or less, by twenty eight acres in depth, and joining to the North-East the land of David McVey and to the South-West the lot hereinafter described, which lot I purchased from John and George Staples, with my share of the house, barn and other buildings thereon erected;
(c) In another lot of ground situate in the same parish, same Township, and Second Range, being formerly lot number ten of said range, containing about two hundred acres in superficies, and joining on the South West side the land of John Payne, as representing John Miller, which lot I bought from Bartholomew Mooney, to have and to hold the vue property of the same from the day of my death and the usufruct only from the day of the death of my wife, Marguerite Woodlock, who will enjoy also the same during her life time, without being bound of making any inventory & giving any security.

Art. 3rd. I give, devise and bequeath unto my other son, John Martin, my share of a lot of land situate in said Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham, being the North half of South half & known and distinguished in the Book of the Cadastre as number(17A) seventeen A of the Second Range of said Township to have & to hold the same from the day of my death in full ownership.

The legacy made in favour of my son, Frank, is thus made at the charge of paying a sum of five hundred dollars, by equal shares, to his sisters, Bridget Louise, Marguerite, Mary & Elisa, payable after the death of my wife.

Art. 4th. I give, devise and bequeath all my properties, moveable and immoveable, real & personal, I may die possessed of to my said wife in full ownership, instituting her as my universal legatee.

Art. 5th. I do nominate my wife my Testamentary Executrix and I revoke all other testaments & last wills I may have done before this day.

This last will and testament received by Jean Baptiste Delage, the undersigned Notary, in the presence of said witnesses having been read to the Testatrix by said Notary, in the presence of said witnesses, he declared to understand well the same and has persisted in the same as containing his last intentions.

Thus done and executed at St. Edmond of Stoneham, dwelling of the Testator, under the number fifteen thousand nine hundred and eleven of the records of said Notary.

In witness whereof the Testator has signed with and in the presence of said Notary and witnesses, who have also signed with and in the presence of said Testator and in the presence of one another after the reading done.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: Thomas had 13 known children, of which at least 4 predeceased him. Six of the remaining nine children are mentioned in the will – missing are Thomas, James, and William. Thomas died 5 years after writing this will (19 June 1915) at the age of 88 years.
