| Anecdote* | 8 September 1847 | Mary Sarah O'Neill; St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; A "Mrs. Francis Martin of Valcartier" is listed as taking in an "orphan" named Jane McNicholas, aged 20, parents Pat McNicholas and Mary Melliham of Swinsworth, County Mayo. She had arrived on the ship Brougham and was first placed in the Catholic orphanage in Quebec City. It is not clear how long she stayed with the family. It does state that she eventually went to the U.S. She had two siblings who died, Robert, aged 3 (Aug. 31); and Mary, aged 9 (Aug. 20). Adoption location of another sibling, Bridget, aged 10, is not listed.4 |

Sarah was the wife of Francis Martin.5 |
