This practice of splitting the religion of the children based on sex seems to have been somewhat commom in mixed religion marriages of this time and place.2

On this sixteenth day of April one thousand nine hundred & seventeen, before me Cyrille Renaud, Notary residing at Loretteville, undersigned, personally came and appeared Mr. John McCoubrey, Farmer, residing at Loretteville, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested me the said Notary to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: I have not found burial records for John or his wife, Jane. There is a church record of a burial in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Valcartier in December, 1917 for John McCoubrey, however, there is not enough identifying information in the entry to identify him as the husband of Jane Patton.2
