d. August 1831
Marriage* | | Bridget Monaghan1 |
Death* | August 1831 | St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; This letter is found in the Neilson Collection: Transcription: "For the Agricultural Society of Quebec: We the undersigned certify that the late Charles McElrone, Lot No. 33, 4th Range, Parish of St. Gabriel, did cut down during last winter without assistance on said lot, four acres that he also without other aid, did plant and sow the entire clearance with potatoes, oats, turnips, that he also built on said lot a substantial log house 20 x 18 feet. That early in August last the said Charles McElrone proceeded to Quebec, and did take out his deeds for said lot, on which occasion this honest man inhaled the prevailing Asiatic Cholera and died on the third day after his return from the City. This melancholy occurrence proves an irreparable loss to his widow, and seven small helpless children. They still reside on said lot. Charles McElrone was a hard working, indefatigable, sober, civil man much lamented by all his neighbours. Since his death application has been made to the Ladies Beneficient Society of Quebec in aid of his most unfortunate family, but the said Society not extending its charitable funds to persons dying without the City, no success from that quarter could be procured. Parish of St. Gabriel, 1st Oct. 1832 Signed: John O'Neill Anthony Madden Hugh (his mark) Connor Edward Monaghan Charles Fitzpatrick Joseph Billing James Abraham Owen O'Sullivan Patrick Liddy John Abraham James Roark1,2 Witness: Bridget Monaghan |
