Big Tom became a kind of family legend around the farms back then for his unusual strength and later for his imbibing habit. Never took a drink until the age of 25 on St. Patrick's Day and then became hooked until his death at about age 83. When his grandmother, Bridget, died in 1895, he was given a farm in the eastern part of her land in Little River. Tom was a very strong ploughman and competed in contests in Ontario and Quebec, winning medals - you had to be very strong to compete in those events.3

Marriage*9 January 1832Edward Cassin; Basilque Notre-Dame, Montreal, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada; The following is a marriage record for a Edward Cassidy and Bridget Riley. We are not completely sure that this is our Edward Cassin, however, the following points seem to make it plausible:
1. The date is 11 months before they had their first child.
2. Parents of Edward are listed as Michael Cassidy (sic) and Margaret Kelly of Queen's County, Ireland. These are the correct names of the parents of Edward Cassin and they did come from Queen's County. However, in 1832, they were farming in Valcartier, Quebec.
3. Edward Cassin married a Bridget O'Reilly. (Riley is the spelling in the church record.)
4. Edward had a brother named John and the witness is listed as "John Cassidy". However, he signs his name as Cassidy and not Cassin, which is concerning. We compared that signature with one in his Marriage Contract in 1835 and there are some similiarities in the writing.

Translation from the French:
The ninth of January, eight hundred and thirty-two, after the publication of three banns of marriage...between Edward Cassidy, living in this Parish, son of age of Michael Cassidy, farmer, and of Margaret Kelly of Queens County in Ireland on the one part. And of Bridget Riley, living in this Parish, daughter of age of Owen Riley, carpenter, and of Ellen Donhue of the county of Cavan in Ireland on the other part...in the presence of John Cassidy, brother of the groom and Jean Baptiste San??..."5,2

Harry O'Sullivan
New Glasgow – Harry O’Sullivan. Loving husband, devoted father and doting (great-) grandfather, Ernest ("Happy" Harry) O'Sullivan, longtime resident of 28 Prospect Street, died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital on July 9 at the age of 88.
Harry was born in Lévis, Québec, and was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (MacDonald) O'Sullivan. Following his schooling in Québec, Harry and his family moved to Nova Scotia, where he met his darling wife Pearl, to whom he was married for 54 years.
In his youth Harry was an avid hunter and fisherman and his love of the outdoors continued well into his eighties. He, Pearl, and their five children took frequent camping trips. In later years, he and Pearl drove their Prowler trailer to campgrounds around the Maritimes and were seasonal campers at both King's Head and Harbour Light campgrounds in Pictou County.
Harry joined the Pictou Highlanders during the Second World War, eventually earning the rank of sergeant.
Never afraid of hard work, Harry was employed in sales first with Keaye's Best Yeast and later Vactric Canada Ltd. He worked for many years as an agent for Quality Cleaners and then Bagnall's Cleaners before he retired in 1985. His cheery smile and kindness earned him the nickname, "Happy Harry."
The son of a CN stationmaster, Harry loved the railroad and was a collector of model trains. His passion for trains has been passed on to several of his grand- and great-grandchildren.
Harry was a devote Catholic and a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Minister of Hospitality. He and Pearl renewed their wedding vows at St. John's when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. During their married life, Harry and Pearl served as counselors for Christian Family Life by being examples to young couples contemplating marriage.
Harry will be remembered for his love of family, his daily recitation of the rosary and his enjoyment of life's simple pleasures, including family celebrations and his favourite TV shows, which he watched from the comfort of his recliner.
Harry was predeceased by his wife Pearl (Rodgers), his parents and his brothers Donald and Roderick.
He is survived by his children: Thomas (Nancy), Elizabeth (Ronald) LeLievre, Patricia, Henry (Anne), and Michael (Tracey Fleet); his eight grandchildren: Shannon, Ryan, Shane, Michelle, Mark, Megan, Tyler, and Jared; his seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Delaney, Alannah, Alora, Riley, Matthew and Benjamin; step grandchildren: Jared, Brynn and Aliya; chosen grandchildren: Emily and Madison; step great grandchildren: Finn and Wes; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitations for Harry will be Sunday, July 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Avenue, New Glasgow. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, High Street, New Glasgow at 11 am on Monday, July 13 with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial to follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital, the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses), or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca2

Occupation*1916Quebec, Canada; From Joe Lonergan in Quebec City - "You could not have spent most of your life in Quebec City without being at least peripherally aware of O’Sullivan College. It was on St. Eustache Street when I was growing up but St. Eustace disappeared with the creation of Blvd Henri Mercier. There was also one on 3rd Avenue in Limoilou. Currently it is on St. John Street where Kresge’s used to be. It first appeared in the old city directories in 1942-1943 when it was at 132 St. John listed as O’Sullivan Business College. Quebec City‘s O’Sullivan Business College was an offshoot of O’Sullivan’s Business College in Montreal, which was established in 1916. Its founder and first Principal was Eugene John O’Sullivan. His parents were married in St. Gabriel de Valcartier and he was baptized in Ancienne Lorette. His great grandparents, Mary Landers and John O’Sullivan were from Bansha, Tipperary. They arrived in Quebec in 1812 after first immigrating in 1811 to Newfoundland. E.J. O’Sullivan died June 28th 1941. The name O’Sullivan, the shamrocks in the grad mosaic and the preponderance of green in the images indicate the Irish connection."4
