On the twenty second day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven, before the undersigned Notary Public for the Province of Quebec, Canada, residing and practicing in the City of Quebec, personally came and appeared Dame Ann Jane Simpson of the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, widow of the late James Newell Farquhar, in his lifetime of the same place, Farmer, who, in the presence of the witnesses hereinafter named, declared that she was desirous of making her last will and testament, which she instantly made in manner and form following:

First, I desire that all my just debts be paid and satisfied as soon as possible after my decease.

Secondly, I give, devise and bequeath unto my son John Farquhar all and every the estate and property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable, money in bank or otherwise, bank and other stocks and shares, farming instruments, machinery, rolling and live stock, of every nature and kind whatsoever of which I may be possessed at the time of my decease, constituting him hereby my universal residuary legatee, and sole executor of my present last will and testament.

Thirdly, I hereby revoke and make void any and all wills and codicils by me at any time heretofore made, and declare the present to contain my only true last wishes and intentions.

It was thus done and dictated by the said Testatrix to John B. Parkin, the said Notary, in presence and hearing of Robert J. Bradley, Esquire, Advocate, and Honoré Casault, both of the said City of Quebec, and by the said Notary read over to the said Testatrix in their presence and hearing, and she declared to have well heard and understood the same, and persisted therein.

Done and passed at the said City of Quebec, in the office of John B. Parkin, the undersigned Notary, under the number of his minutes three thousand five hundred and eighteen, the said Testatrix having signed the present last will and testament in the presence of the said witnesses and of the said Notary, who have signed in her presence and in the presence of each other, according to law.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom: Ann Jane died 6 years later on the 16th of October, 1903 at the reported age of 76. Only her youngest son is mentioned in this will. She and her husband had at least 11 children and at least two of them predeceased her.
