I give, devise & bequeath unto my three married daughters, Isabella Jane Corrigan, wife of Michael Hill, of Montreal, Trader; Margaret Corrigan, wife of John O'Neill, of Little River St. Charles, Farmer; and Ethel Corrigan, wife of James Moore, of Little River St. Charles, Farmer, all and every the residue of my estate and property, real and personal, moveable and immoveable, money in bank or otherwise, and of every other description and kind which I might have a right to have, claim and receive, constituting them hereby my universal legatees. And I declare and will and direct that such bequest is so made [to] my said daughters as and by way of a provision for their alimentary maintenances and support, and shall not form part of any community of property which may exist between them and their said husbands, and shall be paid them on their own receipts and held by them free of marital control, and shall not be liable or seizable for any of their debts. I name and appoint the said James Moore to be Executor of my present last will and testament into whose hands I divest myself of all my estate & property from and after my decease. I revoke all wills by me at any time heretofore made and I declare the present to contain my only true last wishes and intentions. It was thus made, named & dictated by the said Testator to the said John B. Parkin in the presence of Felix C. Illness* | 1850 | St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada; 1850 Quebec City The Morning Chronicle On Wednesday last, William Corrigan, farmer of Valcartier, came to town for the purpose of having a tumour removed from the lower jaw bone, by the knife. Having great dread of being unable to bear the operation, which is a most painful one, I placed him under the influence of Electric Biology and on Thursday morning, whilst in that state, the operation was performed by Dr. James Douglas. The operation consisted in cutting and sawing out a large portion of the lower jaw bone and this was effected without pain and almost without loss of blood. On the patient being told the operation was completed, he rose up briskly without help and walked to the bed, declaring that although he knew and saw all that was doing he-had felt no pain. In conclusion, I am convinced that Electric Biology is destined to become one of the greatest blessings of the age, and its use in nervous and other painful diseases, under judicious management will be important as well as in surgical operations.
