On this day the sixth of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety four, before us the undersigned Notary and witnesses hereinafter named, personally came and appeared Dame Susan Brown, now residing in Quebec, widow of the late Henry Ward in his life time a farmer residing in Beauport, who requested the said Notary to write down and receive in due form of law, her last will and testament which she instantly dictated and named as follows, to wit:

I will and direct that all my past debts be fully paid and satisfied out of my estate by my Executrix hereinafter named.

I give and bequeath all my property moveable and immoveable, real and personal, which I may die possessed of at the time of my decease unto my daughter Suzan Ward living with me in muneration of all the services she may have rendered me.

I appoint my said daughter my universal legatee and Executrix of my present will, revoking all former wills at any time heretofore by me made declaring the present to contain my only true will and intentions.

It was thus made, dictated and named by the said Testatrix unto us the said Notary and the said will having been read over to the said Testatrix by the said Notary in the presence of Etienne Gauvin of Quebec, Bookseller, and Alfred Leclerc of Quebec, Druggist, two witnesses expressly called for that purpose, she declared to have perfectly understood the same and persisted in the contents therein.

Thus done and passed before L. Leclerc, the undersigned Notary, on the day and year above written under the number sixteen thousand five hundred and fifteen the said Testatrix having signed her name wit us the said Notary and witnesses who have also signed these presents in the presence of the Testatrix and of one another after due reading according to law.

NOTE: Henry Ward and Susan Brown were married on 21 April 1845, Valcartier Church of England.

Note by Patricia Balkcom:  Susan died 23 years (19 June 1917 – aged 94 years) after this will was written so it is possible that there is a later will.  Susan and Henry had several children, although only daughter, Suzan is mentioned.
