Last Will of Janet Mather

On this day, the thirteenth of December one thousand eight hundred and eighty one, before us the undersigned Notaries Public for the Province of Quebec residing at the City of Quebec, personally came and appeared Mrs. Janet Mather, wife of  Mr. John Knox, farmer, of the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being in good bodily health and of sound and perfect mind, memory and understanding requested us the said Notaries to write down and receive in due form of law her last will and testament which she instantly dictated and named unto us the said Notaries as follows, to wit:

I give and bequeath unto my beloved husband John Knox all the property real and personal, moveable and immoveable without any exception nor reserve whatsoever which I may be possessed of at the time of my death, to have and to hold the same unto him in full and absolute property, hereby appointing him my sole universal legatee.

I do hereby appoint my said husband Executor of this my present last will and testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all former wills and codicils heretofore by me made, declaring the present to be my only true last will and testament.

It was thus made and dictated by the said Janet Mather unto us the said Notaries, on the day and year first above written, and the present last will and testament having been read over in full to the said Testatrix by Mtre. Edward George Cannon, the other Notary, who assisted and was present during the whole execution hereof,  she the said Janet Mather, Testatrix, declared that she had perfectly heard and understood the same and found it to contain her true last will and testament and therefore persisted therein.

Thus done and passed at Quebec in the office of Mtre. Philippe Huot, one of the said Notaries on the day and year first above written under the number eight thousand five hundred and sixty eight the said Janet Mather, Testatrix, having signed with and in the presence of the said Notaries who have also both signed with & in the presence of each other and of the said Testatrix these presents having been first duly read according to law.
