Last Will of David McKinley

Translated from the Original Will at the Quebec Archives

On this seventeenth day of October one thousand nine hundred and two, before me Cyrille Renaud Public Notary residing in the Parish of St. Ambroise of Jeune Lorette personally appeared David McKinley, residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, Farmer,  who being of sound mind and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested us the said Notary and witnesses to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

1º I most willingly resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator in the humble hope that he will receive it to his favor through the sole merits and intercession of Jesus Christ my Saviour.

2º I desire that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my executor hereinafter named, as soon as possible after my death.

3º I give and bequeath to my son David McKinley all my moveable and immovable properties but the use and usufruct only after the death of my wife, Catherine Billing. This legacy is made to the charge by David McKinley to pay the sum of one hundred dollars to Andrew McKinley, the sum of fifty dollars to Susan McKinley, fifty dollars to Mary, fifty dollars to Alice, and fifty dollars to Frances McKinley and the feather bed to this last, and to charge by my said universal legatee to pay the sum of twenty five dollars to John McKinley, my son, and twenty five dollars to Curtis McKinley. All these amounts will be paid after the death of my wife.

I nominate, constitute, and appoint my said son David McKinley my universal legatee and executor of this will and testament.

I revoke all will and testaments I may have heretofore made and I declare the present to be my only true last will and testament.

Done and passed at St. Ambroise under Notarial Number two thousand three hundred and twelve. And after the reading of these presents to the said Testator in presence of François Savard and George White both witnesses requested for the purposes of these presents, the appearer, the witnesses and the Notary have signed in the presence of each other.
