On this twenty first day of May in the year one thousand nine hundred and ten, before me Cyrille Renaud, Public Notary, residing in the Parish of St. Ambroise of Jeune Lorette, personally appeared Thomas Berry, Farmer, residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested me the said Notary to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

1º I desire that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my Executor as soon as possible after my death.

2º I give and bequeath to my brother John Berry the sum of fifty dollars and to my sister Maggie Berry, wife of Dan Kack, the sum of fifty dollars and my carriole, payable three years after my death.

3º I give and bequeath all the remainder of my moveable and immoveable properties wherever the same may be found and whatever the same shall amount to my sister Elizabeth Berry, wife of Adam Aikens, that I constitute and appoint my universal legatee.

4º I nominate, constitute and appoint my sister Elizabeth Berry and her husband Adam Aikens as Executors of this my will and testament and I declare the present to be my only true last will and testament.

Done and passed at Valcartier in the residence of Thomas Berry under Notarial Number four thousand six hundred and seventy three. And after the reading of the present will by said Notary to the Testator in presence of Thomas Holton and Hugh Bowles, both farmers of Valcartier, the Testator, the Notary and the witnesses have signed in presence of each other.

Surrounded by his loving family, Don passed away of complications after surgery at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula February 20.

Don was born in Butte December 4th, 1931 to Richard and Mildred Best. He attended Butte High School and at the age of 16 joined the Army to serve his country. He was stationed in Germany for 4 years.

Don worked for the ACM Company in Butte for several years.

Don and his family moved to Deer Lodge in 1960 to work as a correctional officer at the Montana State Prison. Then he operated the Texaco Gas Station for nine years. He then returned to work at the Prison as food director. Don retired in 1987 due to health issues.

Don’s life was hunting, fishing, camping at the Big Hole/Canyon Ferry, and spending time with his family and friends. Don lived life to the fullest. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks and VFW.

He married Margaret (Cookie) Smith in Butte on June 13, 1953. Together they had three daughters.

He is survived by his wife Cookie, daughters Sandi Kibler of Butte, Kathryn (Dan) Gutebier of Livingston, Connie (John) Reighard of Helena.

He had 10 grandchildren: Josh Pomeroy of Maryland, Cory Pomeroy of Washington, Nicole Glase of Missoula, Megan Kibler of Colorado, Jenni Goosey of Livingston, Erin Salley of North Carolina, Lynde Crump of Wyoming, Joey Mosley of Germany, Matt Reighard of Helena, Katie Reighard of Helena. He had 15 great-grandchildren and expecting number 16, a little boy in March.

Sister-in-law Gayle Best of Silver Star and Donna Best of Butte. Brother-in-law Bill Smith of Butte, and many numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leslie, Junie, Melvin, and Wally and great-grandson Ethan.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends at the Broken Arrow on July 12, 2014.

We all love you, including your little dog, Griz.

Gone but never forgotten.

Memorials may be made to the Rialto Theater, Elks 1737, Tina’s House, or the charity of your choice.3
