Philippe Huot, our confrere, have taken down as dictated to us by the same John Woodlock word for word and as follows, viz., I recommend my soul to Almighty God hoping for a free pardon and remission of my sins through the intercession of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ. I will and direct that all my just debts be fully paid and satisfied by me Executor hereinafter named. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Dalton, all and every the property real and personal, moveable and immovable (without any exception or reserve) which I may die possessed of hereafter instituting her my said wife my universal legatee. And I do hereby appoint my said wife sole executrix of this my present last will and testament revoking all former wills and codicils at any time made heretofore by me made. It was thus made, dictated and named by the said John Woodlock, Testator, unto us the said Notaries on the day and year above written, and the present Last Will and Testament having been read over and over again lu et relu au long to the said John Woodlock, Testator, by Mtre. Edward George Cannon one of us the said notaries in the presence of the said Philippe Huot who was present all the time during the execution hereof the said John Woodlock declared to have perfectly heard and understood the said Will and Testament and persisted in the contents thereof. Quebec Archives Online On the eleventh day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight, about eight of the clock in the afternoon, Before Charles Henry Andrews, Notary Public residing at Quebec in the Province of Quebec and the Dominion of Canada and before Peter Smith Esquire of the Parish of St. Ambroise de la Jeune Lorette, Paper Manufacturer, and Mr. Andrew Landrigan of the Parish of Valcartier, Farmer, both witnesses expressly requested to be present appeared Mr. John Woodlock of the Parish of Valcartier in the County and District of Quebec, Farmer, who apparently being in good bodily health and of sound and perfect mind, memory, judgment and understanding requested me the said Notary in the presence of said witnesses to receive and write down his last will and testament which he instantly made and named in manner following, that is to say: I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and satisfied with all due diligence after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Mary Dalton, the sum of forty dollars to be an annual life rent to be paid to her during her natural life during each and every year of its duration to be paid to her in half yearly payments on the first day of May and first day of November of each and every year and which said annual life rent shall be and remain as a special mortgage on all of my immoveable and immoveable property which I may die possessed of. I give, devise and bequeath unto my four children, John Woodlock, Edward Woodlock, Michael Woodlock, and David Woodlock in equal proportions share and share alike all my property real and personal moveable and immoveable without exception to have, hold and enjoy the same as their own absolute property for ever en plein et entière propriété. I do hereby revoke all former wills and codicils at the time heretofore by me made. It was thus made, dictated and named by the said Testator unto me the said Notary in the presence of said witnesses, the present last will and testament having been read and re-read by me the said Notary the witnesses being present the said John Woodlock, Testator declared to have perfectly heard and understood the same and persisted therein declaring that it contained entirely his last will and testament. Done and executed at the said Parish of Valcartier at the residence of the said Testator on the day and tear first above written under the number nine hundred and ninety three the said Testator having signed these presents twice read as aforesaid and signed by me the said Notary and witnesses. Also, although only four children are mentioned in the will, he had 11 children; several predeceased him, including Edward and David who are mentioned in the will. His oldest son, Patrick is not mentioned in the will, presumably because he had moved to Montana by this time.11 |

I give, devise and bequeath unto my son, Frank Martin (a) all my household furniture, agricultural implements, vehicles, cattle and all other moveable effects & goods I may die possessed of; (b) my share and all other rights of property I have in a lot of ground situate in said Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham, being formerly lot number eleven of the Second Range of the Township of Stoneham, containing nine acres in front, more or less, by twenty eight acres in depth, and joining to the North-East the land of David McVey and to the South-West the lot hereinafter described, which lot has been purchased by my husband from John and George Staples, with my share of the house, barn and other buildings thereon erected; (c) In another lot of ground situate in the same parish, same Township, and Second Range, being formerly lot number ten of said range, containing about two hundred acres in superficies, and joining on the South West side the land of John Payne, as representing John Miller, and on the North East the lot above described, to have and to hold the vue property of the same from the day of my death and the enjoyment and usufruct only from the day of the death of my husband, who will enjoy also the same during his life time, without being bound of making any inventory & giving any security. I give, devise and bequeath unto my other son, John Martin, my share of a lot of land situate in said Parish of St. Edmond of Stoneham, being the North half of South half & known and distinguished upon the plan and in the Book of Reference thereto of the Cadastre as number(17a) seventeen a of the Second Range of the Township of Tewkesbury, to have and to hold the same from the day of my death in full ownership. The legacy made in favour of my son, Frank, is thus made at the charge of paying to his sister, Bridget Louise, a sum of two hundred dollars and a sum of one hundred dollars to each of his other sisters, Marguerite, Mary & Elisa, payable after the death of my husband. Art. 4th. I give, devise and bequeath all my properties, moveable and immoveable, real & personal, I may die possessed of to my said husband in full ownership. Art. 5th. I do nominate my husband my Testamentary Executor and I revoke all other testaments & last wills I may have done before this day. This last will and testament received by Jean Baptiste Delage, the undersigned Notary, in the presence of said witnesses having been read to the Testatrix by said Notary, in the presence of said witnesses, she declared to understand well the same and has persisted in the same as containing her last intentions. Thus done and executed at St. Edmond of Stoneham, dwelling of said Testatrix, under the number fifteen thousand nine hundred and twelve of the records of said Notary. Édouard Antill Panet the undersigned Notary Public duly commissioned and sworn in and residing and practising in the Parish of Saint Raymond in the County of Portneuf and Province of Quebec, and in the presence of Arthur G.
